Heat treated parts erupt with gas during HCl acid washing
April 13, 2012
Q. Hello.
I'm working for a fastener company in Korea. Currently, we're having a hard time with an unsolved problem. We sincerely need finishing experts' advice.
The part material is AISI 10B21, boron alloyed steel.
Currently, the phenomenon we are suffering is that our part erupts gas during acid washing bath. For this washing, our supplier uses diluted muriatic acid. Before this coating process, we do heat treatment and in order to avoid gas eruption in the bath, we washes the parts with oil.
However, whenever, the part goes into our supplier's acid washing bath, within 10-20 sec, gassing occurs and after finishing the plating process, the part will be left unplated or without luster.
Please advise us, is this the problem of raw material, heat treatment or acid washing?
We sincerely need your valuable knowledge.
