ABS mechanical properties after chrome plating

Q. Hello,
We are doing some concepts requiring chrome plating on a part with snap features.
Should we expect a degradation of tensile strength after the entire process?
Thanks for your help,

A. Hi Tom. Good question.

I would imagine that the etching process would somewhat weaken the ABS but I have no numbers at all. This looks like a question that will have to be answered by someone who has actually done testing.

Thanks Ted,

We will be getting samples at end of month, both plated and raw, and hopefully will publish comparative test results.

Thanks again,
tom
