Need samples of yellow chromate and chrome for easy I.D.

Q. Where can I find samples of the yellow chromate and chrome samples like you would get for paint chips to match colors. Need samples for the receiving inspection to quickly identify the different surface prep.

Hi Kenneth.

Today's trivalent chromating is all proprietary, with thick film vs. thin film, top coats of various sorts, different dyes to get a yellow-ish or gold-ish color. Your plating shop can put test panels in with the parts (or process them separately) -- because I doubt that samples from another plating shop would match up well.

But it sure seems to me that plating shops everywhere should be jumping at the chance to sell samples, and then have their samples be used as the example of what a good finish ought to look like :-)
