Summary for hot-dip guy wire specimens Discussion
Hot-dip Galfan, Galvalume, and Galvannealed guy wire specimens were requested for a Navy project investigating alternative materials and coatings for antenna guy wires. Theresa Hoffard, a materials project engineer in Port Hueneme, California, said the current baseline is galvanized high-strength steel and that the team wants lab-tested steel wire specimens coated by a company that can perform the hot-dip service. The requested wire size is 4.5 to 5 mm in diameter, and the team also wants a service that can bundle the coated wires into a guy strand afterward. The thread is essentially an RFQ for coating and post-coating strand assembly, with no technical debate or conflicting answers shown in the excerpt.

RFQ. We have a project to investigate alternative materials and coatings for antenna guy wires. Currently the Navy uses galvanized high strength steel. We want to conduct lab testing on steel wire specimens that have been Galfaned, Galvalumed, or Galvannealed. We are looking for a company that can perform the Hot-Dip coating service for us. Individual Wire size would be 4.5 to 5 mm diameter. Bundling of the wires into a guy strand after the wires are coated is also a service we seek.
