-----Finish/Coating for Brass coated steel
Q. My name is Steve and I work for a Handbag company, Currently I am using a steel raw material with brass plating and lacquer protection. The only problem is the leather I use with this hardware rubs the metal and wears it and scratches it over time. Is there any other materials for coating I can use on top or instead of what I am using now?
Thanks

Hi, Steven
Two possibilities for investigation would be:
- a UV or radiation cured clear hardcoat, such as is used on plastic automotive headlamps
- zirconium nitride, a very hard coating applied by PVD that happens to be brass colored.

Why not use hard brass or bronze? Eliminates the need for plating which might come close to being near the plated price. Saves time also.
