-----Derusting hot dip galvanized nuts
November 21, 2011
We have 6 MT of hot dip galvanized nuts M16 that have been heavily rusted inside the nut. Can you suggest a simple way to remove the rust. We have used a chemical coming from USA with very good results but the cost of the chemical is higher than the cost of the nuts.
Your advice will be highly appreciated.

You didn't say how much the de-rusting is costing, but I wonder if just re-galvanizing the nuts is an option?
It could be that there's no spin galvanizing on Cyprus?
Have they been overtapped for use with spin galvanized bolts perhaps? If that's the case, the theory is that the zinc on the outer thread of the bolt protects the exposed steel inside the nut. But it only does that while the nut is on the bolt.
If you're planning to use them on fully galvanized bolts, then just putting them on as they are might be an option.
