Looking to find more info on chroming and where a person can get training

My name is Randy I am from Alberta Canada and I have a deep interest in chroming, now I have talked with a very successful guy who is local here and he gave me some pointers being the fact he as well started with nothing and now has alot. I know this business would do great for 2 reasons. 1. It has been a dream of mine to open a chroming business for many years and 2. there is not one around here or even close to here that I am aware of and I believe that it would be a high demand if there was a shop open. Now I know I have lots of research to do with the Canadian laws and stuff and with the area I live in. I would like to know what sites are the best for me to keep searching so I can learn the most possible on chroming and have a better understand on the whole procedure.

Hi, Randy. Please start with our FAQ: "Introduction to Chrome Plating". It is intended to be a tutorial so that you can quickly understand on an overall level what chrome plating is about, and thus prepare yourself to ask more detailed questions. There are links there to books specifically about chrome plating as well as more general plating books. For training you should contact Kushner Plating School and or The National Association for Surface Finishing (nasf.org). Please include your city on your followup so people can steer you to local information. Best of luck!

Book learning is a great start, but chrome plating has many little tricks to plate difficult parts that can only be learned from a master with hands on.

Find a good chrome shop in your province and take a beginner or apprentice position. It is nasty stuff. You may change your mind after a year.
Learn on someone else's dime.

To open a shop, you will need an accountant, a lab technician, someone knowledgeable of haz waste management and air quality. Plus equipment, including a fume scrubber.
