WTB acid etched sheet aluminum boat deck

1956 aluminum boat restoration. It has a sheet aluminum in that appears to have been made by spraying some kind of mask material out of a spray gun to yield a round "splattery" pattern with about 85% untouched surface and the narrow areas between the islands etched.
The sheet looks to be about .040 inches or maybe .32 inches thick. Do you have any idea how this material was made ? There is NO pattern on back side and the depth of the pattern appears to be thin compared to the sheet thickness. It looks etched to me.
What mask material would they have used to achieve the rounded splatter pattern for the masking material ?
Any thoughts or guidance ?
Tim
