Teflon vs. Hard chromium plating for EVA molds

September 22, 2011

Hi, I am working for an EVA sheet making company.
I am going to buy new EVA moulds from a new mould maker. Mould size is 920 mm * 920 mm and plate thickness is 9 mm. Mould material is "A3 steel". We initially asked to have hard chromium plating for the mould plates, but mould maker proposed "Teflon" coated instead of hard chromium plating. What would be the better if the mould operates under 225 bar (hydraulic pressure), temperature about 160 °C (under 8.5 bar steam pressure)?
Please let me know the difference between Teflon & hard chromium plating?
