Effect of hex chromium in trivalent chromium plating bath

I am a researcher studying speciation of chromium. I just would like to know whether there is any significance in the plating if the trivalent chromium plating bath is 'contaminated' by hexavalent chromium? Is it critical to know the trace hexavalent chromium concentration in a trivalent chromium plating bath?
