-----1018 Steel coated for corrosion resistance and looks
I own a small machining and manufacturing facility. We have been waterjet cutting some small parts from 1018 steel and then having them nickel plated. Within 2 weeks the steel is already corroding through the plating. Will someone please give me some advise as to the best thing to coat this steel with? Some requirements are that it not change the spec of the part by more than .002 and it cannot weaken the part. Corrosion resistance is my first priority but if it has a nice look to it that would be great too.

Hi, Matt.
Although I think that there is something wrong with your plating process if the nickel plated part cannot survive even a couple of weeks, I think a bright acid zinc plating may offer better corrosion resistance less expensively, and still look quite good.
