Restoration of Una Eclipse nickel plated stove

I find myself in charge of restoring a "No. 13, Una Eclipse" stove for the Amberg, Wis. Museum (non-profit.) It appears to have been nickel plated and it is badly rusted. If I use electrolysis will it remove the remaining nickel? That would not be good. Any advice would be appreciated.

Try preservapedia.org/Nickel webpage; there you can find some formulations for cleaning nickel plated objects. Careful mechanical cleaning is very good (I think the best) but slow option ( WD-40 [on eBay or Amazon] + steel wool + elbow grease). Laser cleaning is good option too but probably too expensive for small museum. Hope it helps and good luck!
