-----An old formulation for acid sulphate zinc baths
June 19, 2011
I found an old article about an acid zinc bath using zinc sulphate, and I remember seeing a colleague that has some old containers that have some acid zinc bath: sulphate based, aluminium sulphate, and ammonium chloride.
Curiosity lead me to search on the web and some books.
I found in old books an acid zinc bath sulphate based with aluminum compounds (aluminum sulphate) with variations.
Those baths are not present in newer books.
I would like to know why is that bath not mentioned in the books, what are its characteristics, performance and if no longer in use?
I guess this baths are not good compared to cyanide or acid chloride baths?

I found a process called Tainton also called Bethanization created by Bethlehem Steel company in 1930.
But these processes were only for wire plating.
