Roughness in Standard Current Density Hard Chrome Plating?

June 17, 2011

hi,
I have a problem in our industry, lately, our condition in hard chrome plating plant is bad, we have standard current density and time plating for tubular shape in automotive part. the standard , for example, 6600 A for total area part 120 dm2 (55 A/dm2) in 14 minutes to achieve 10 - 15 micron. Now if we use this standard almost all parts have roughness in all areas. Overcoming action has been made by reduce ampere by 4500 A and 2800 ( 37 minute), the result is good But it cost cycle time and production capacity. Our plating system is dipping process with 64 jig, 1 jig has 2 part which pile up in it. I have an idea to change the anode from stick anode to conforming anode to increase plating time. anyone know the possibility of this trouble and the way to overcome it?could you share your opinion about my idea? I really appreciate it.
Thanks.
