Unstrippable finish on brass door hardware?

I purchased 4 doorknob escrutcheons from the used hardware bin. I have tried boiling with baking soda which did not remove the finish. Then I used Jasco stripper which also did not work. I am trying to use these 4 plates as they match the other doors exactly. What other methods might I try to strip the finish so I can darken the brass. I know they are brass as they are not magnetic.
