Stainless steel drain stained by Comet cleanser

I used comet on the drain in my stainless steel sink. I didn't realize that it was a commercial strength version. The stain that appeared inside the base or "drain' of my sink is now GOLD. Is there any way to repair this? I've tried the liquid form of the Barkeeper's Friend: on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . It has helped reduce the appearance of it, but the new "color" won't go away. HELP!

Hi, Jennifer.

The sink is stainless steel, but the discolored area is a separate drain fitting that was apparently made of brass and nickel-chrome plated. But it's replaceable; call a plumber or look in a plumbing supply or big-box store for a replacement. Good luck.
