Pump shaft material for water application

October 22, 2010

Which is better material for submerged pump shaft. SS 316 or SS 410.
Application is filtered water.

410 is a lot stronger, but it will rust a lot quicker. If you have a near neutral pH and low chlorides, I would probably use 304 as it will work well and is normally more available and cheaper.

Tungsten Carbide may be the best substitute.
