Brass-tone Clear Coat?
I need to age large pieces of brass--the largest being 42" x 36" x 2". I represent a company that makes metal cabinets for high end lobbies. Our customer wants to match existing 40 year old brass elevators to our new light grained cabinets. The sample they sent us is no more than one shade different than our clear coated pieces so I was wondering if there is a "tint" available to add to our clear coat to give the brass that aged appearance.
Any help at all will be much appreciated.

Dear Teresa,
There are several ways that you can do it. Either you can buy black oxidizer and use it as per the instructions to change the color and match it with the old one. But this will be paler reddish in appearance.Remember the brass is a mixture of copper and zinc, so the only oxidizing part is copper, either you can buy copper oxidizers and try it with small a quantities. I am sure you would be able to match the color accordingly.
Good Luck
