Can hardened 440C Stainless be Electropolished?
Can Stainless 440C after hardening to 55-58 HRC be Electropolished to obtain the same shining finish as compared to Stainless 304 & 316?
Currently we try EP SS440C after harden to 55-58 HRC and found that the part looks dull with dark yellow stains. Not like the shining finish of EP 316 or 303 that we used to have. The purpose for EP is for corrosion protection and has to look clean since the part is being used in the clean room. Please advice.

Stainless Steel 440 can be perfectly electropolished. We use our Universal electrolyte that can electropolish all kinds of stainless alloy.

Also for additional corrosion protection we have developed passivation technology for such stainless steel. Corrosion tests show 3 times longer than for non-passivated, before breaking the passivating film.
