Plating over pewter jewellery

Is it possible to gold or rhodium plate over pewter or do one needs a under coat?

Hi, Peter.

To answer generally, you usually need an underplate for brightness even if for no other reason. But please try your best to post your situation rather than an abstract question because there are always too many ifs, ands, and buts when no actual circumstances are supplied. Good luck.
