Galvanized coating thickness of steel rod equal to sheet steel

Q. I am trying to locate any information that will indicate the galvanized coating thickness for steel rod. Will it have the same designation as sheet steel (example G60, G90). Can steel rod be obtained with a coating thickness equal to G90?

A. Sir:

Coating thickness on rod varies by method, steel type, and zinc bath chemistry. Using air blow ring (like tube galvanizing, one could expect 2 to 8 mils) (multiply mils by 25.4 to get microns).
