What tools to use to find thickness and hardness of hard chrome plating?



 

I am looking for

a)suitable and reliable hand portable instrument to check the hard chrome plating thickness in microns.
b)suitable and reliable hand portable instrument to check hardness in hRc of hard chrome plating components. (in this case Cylinder tube)

can any one help me out? I am based from Bangalore

Chrome hardness needs to be done with Knoop or Vickers indenter, and they are definitely not portable.

Your choice of thickness measurement depends on the accuracy that you need. Certainly there are plating equipment vendors in your area that can demonstrate the portable and relatively simple devices. Most vendors carry at least 2 types.
Calibration on a representative part before plating is critical.
