Low embrittling cadmium plates for corrosion

April 11, 2010

Dear all,

I have questions about low embrittling cadmium plate on steel as per ASTM F 1111.

- After reading the test method appendix, it don't mention any finishing for the plated Cd (aeronautic finishing like bichromating for example). If the Cd plating is not finished, the corrosion test will not be representative of the real conditions, isn't it?

- Were can I buy low embrittling cadmium plate on steel, according to ASTM F 1111? (where testing labs like SMI are sourcing these reference materials?)

Thanks for your help,
