Compatibility of a brass valve in a steel air receiver

March 2, 2010

One client that is presently working for a shipyard is requesting us brass valves (CW614N, CuZn39Pb3) for a new building. The application is for air receivers (Main Engine starting air bottles - MAWP 30 bar, max. engine room temperature 50º C). These valves will be fitted between the air receiver an a manometer-gauge (with threaded unions). From pressure and temperature point of view, I do not see any problem. My question: I guess that the air receivers are made of steel coated from inside & outside (Grade A?), is there compatibility of a brass valve and a steel receiver?
