Spraying zincate onto an aluminum automobile

January 28, 2010

Can Zincate be sprayed on to a large area.
I'm on a admittedly ambitious project- renovating a 60's built aluminum bodied car, in South India.Tropical climate with ambient Humidity often touching 98%. Final coating is Paint- so far everything I've tried- Etch Zinc primer etc lasts a while then the bubbles start.
Is there any advantage to zincating first and then applying the coatings? And given that building a tank for the body would be extremely cumbersome, together with the volumes of zincate needed--- would there be any use in spraying the Zincate on, i.e., hitting the Aluminium at High pressure with the Zincate Solution-- continuously?
