  Thread 540/97

Why did my silver toned bowl turn black in the dish washer?

I don't know what metal it is, and now I can't get is silver again What do I do.... how do I find out what kind of metal it is?

Thank you,

Hi, Gina. Try silver polish. If it is silver, you ought to see some immediate improvement even if it would be a lot of work to fix it. If it is aluminum, the alkaline dishwasher detergent attacked it and nothing can be done short of mechanically buffing it back, which might be impractical.
