Removing Oil Paint from new brass hardware.
When painting on a remodel I did not realize the sidelights had been opened in repair of the door. Only focusing on the main door I trashed the hardware on the opening sidelights. Trying to get it off with your normal hardware or paint store products has shown no results thus far. What Can I do. This is not solid Brass.

Hi, Mike. Sorry, but this may be bad. Organic strippers should have no effect on metals like brass, but if the brass is bright it is probably because it has an organic coating on it which will be removed by the paint remover. The strong stripper is aircraft stripper (methylene chloride) but it is truly noxious stuff so rubber gloves, goggles, and excellent ventilation are mandatory . . . and it will probably remove whatever coating is keeping the brass from tarnishing.
