Go blind from welding?
Q. I live in Roswell,N.M. & my fiance started a new job about two weeks ago welding machinery. The other day he was seeing blurry! He stated that a person can go blind with the sparks! I was just being concerned about his vision or is he just over exaggerating?

A. Hi, Lilly. Yes, it is reportedly possible to go blind, and the fact that his vision was blurry is an indication that he may lack a proper welding helmet or proper training. If your fiance is new to welding, and intends to continue, and is concerned that he has not been properly trained or is not properly equipped, he needs to get to a library and research the subject. The light is intensely bright, and adequate eye protection is absolutely mandatory.
