Take a look in ASTM A967. There are five citric acid based procedures for simple passivation. Our company uses a proprietary Citric based chelating solution that provides superior test results over Nitric, Phosphoric and simple Citric processes but unless you are in the semi conductor or pharmaceutical business you don't have a need for such sophisticated processes. The simple ambient Citric process test higher on ESCA than 20% Nitric!
