A. Hi, Amit. Your inquiry brings to mind the old saw "There's no harm in asking". But this is the kind of question that keeps market research firms in business, and they will charge at least 5-figure fees to offer such data :-)

You haven't yet given us any info yet about yourself, your company, or why you want this market research data, but if you flesh out your inquiry with a demonstration of willingness to share info, maybe the readers can at least offer some general hints about these parameters. Good luck!

A. That would take someone in your area of India to answer, since all of those costs are different in every other part of the world.

A. Dear Amit,

It's a very interesting question you have asked which relates to your local market conditions. You want to know the powder coating sq.ft coverage cost. No one can provide you the exact cost without knowing the type of powder. The other things like Gas, electricity, labor, water expenses etc all relates to your actual local conditions.

? I'm curious as to why you want the costs in a sq ft basis?

In my experience cost is not proportional to surface area.

I note that many people charge for powder coating by surface area. Why?
Why not by the weight of the item? or the complexity of the shape? Or the capacity of a plant in items per hour?
The only things that's really proportional to area is the powder. And that's not the biggest cost.

A. All of the process variables(overhead) are figured into the per foot pricing, not just the actual paint cost. One reason to do it this way is because square footage of the part is a constant variable regardless of equipment efficiencies. If a part is 10 square feet, its 10 square feet to everybody, so I guess you could say it's standard practice to price per square foot because it puts everyone on the same playing field.
If it takes you 4 hours to paint 10 parts @ 10 sq ft but it takes a competitor 3 hours to paint 10 parts @ 10 sq ft, he wins the contract. It wouldn't be good to price complexity because complexity can be in the eye of the (innovative) beholder. Same with capacity, etc...

thumbs up signI couldn't agree more with Mr Geoff Crowley; the surface area serves as a guide to the paint or powder cost; the other costs of processing a two square foot part with only one square foot of coated area remains the same.

Its like this: you can send a whole letter or write just three words, the courier charges are the same in any case.

A. You can't always go by sq ft when determining your quote. Some items you quote by the linear ft and depending on the paint and complexity plus what you can physically move through your oven an hour, prep time, whether you have to sandblast the items, if you have a blast unit in house or if you have to send it out to get blasted. Every variable changes your price.
