Why is SS 316 recommended for BSL 3 lab exhaust Dusts?

March 31, 2009

I am not sure but some people said that SS 316 is recommended for Bio-Safety Level 3 labs exhaust duct, is it true?

If yes kindly send me the reference.

If no, is this a good engineering practice.

Hi Tahir,

I, too, am an HVAC designer ... mainly for strong acid fumes.... and have nearly always used PVC with the exception of mild steel (welded construction for chromic fumes).

Hot fumes are not a problem due to the cooling effect of ambient air at the fume hood.

If you have any further queries, let me know, please.
