Can you mirror polish an aluminum marine hull or will saltwater dull it?

Q. I'm building an 18 foot aluminum boat for the salt water.can you mirror polish marine alum?and will it fade from the salt water?

A. You can electropolish aluminium and even buff polish it, but it will certainly go milky in saltwater. The chloride in the water will attack the aluminium and leave it looking pretty poor

Sharkhide

on eBay or

Amazon

(affil links)

adv.
Hi there,

We commonly polish aluminum boat hulls and then we coat them with Sharkhide [on eBay or Amazon] Metal Protectant. Once you've done this, you can use the boat in both fresh and salt water for years without getting any streaks, stains or water lines.
