Painting aluminum statues

We have two life size models of deer (stag and doe) made of aluminium, which appear to have been cast in several pieces and welded with an epoxy(?) filler in the joints. We brought them new, treasonably cheaply in US about 6 months ago and brought them to UK; they seem in good condition but I want to cover the cracks and stop them corroding. The aluminium colour looks ok, or we could paint them more natural colours. Can I do this myself, do they need sand blasting to prepare for painting?

Hi,Ruth. There is no accounting for taste so I can't advise whether to paint them, but if you do, use a Self-etching primer [on eBay or Amazon] .
