Silver plating on female threads
I have a question regarding the silver plating done on some of the 316 female nut threads.. It is a standard that silver plating must be done on female threads used for critical applications and high temperatures. It is also known to aid in the prevention of galling. I would appreciate if anyone clarified as to how exactly Silver plating helps the above stated concerns, which are "high temperature application" and "galling prevention".
Thanks in advance

Hi, Karthik. I'm not familiar with silver being required for "high temperature", but I do know of it as an anti-galling agent. 316 stainless is a great material for fasteners, but 316 threaded onto 316 will definitely gall against each other -- this is sort of like a "cold welding" phenomena. Silver gives good lubricity and prevents the galling.
