Passivation


I need to know a method of passivation of stainless steel but without using any hexavalent chromium compounds and thus offer Rohs certificate.

Both citric acid and ASTM A967 Nitric 4 passivation processes employ Cr-free chemistry and are suitable for a wide range of alloys.

I am out of date, but I was not aware that any common citric passivation formulas contained chromates.
