Electroplating onto glass

I have to plate small areas of glass capillary as part of a manufacturing process for a high value sensor. It can be electroplated or electroless. Nickel would be suitable as would copper, gold and many other metals. Will an etch be beneficial? I would prefer to buy an existing developed process but would develop a good idea myself if necessary.
