Gas permeability of elecroplated ABS/HIPS
October 1, 2008
I'm designing a product that requires the long term storage of a vacuum. Imagine a container molded in ABS or HIPS with a vacuum installed & sealed by a rubber bung. Can electroplating be used as a gas barrier? There are plastics available such as PET & PEN with very low OTR (oxygen transfer rate) but I require a better barrier than these can achieve. Any suggestions?
