Anodizing vs. Chromating




This is Mukundhan, Process Engineer of Surface treatment processes from Chennai, India.

We are about to set up a facility for Surface protective coating of cast Al. Since this is my first project I need guidance of experts.

We considered both the processes stated above.
Q1. Which one is more common and
Q2. How established is trivalent chromating process? Are people able to produce consistent results?
Q3. From a metallurgist standpoint which one may be able to give better surface properties? ( The microstructural Characteristics, Fatigue properties etc,)
