-----Wood window frame is embedded in stucco. How can we prevent rot?
We have put wood build-outs on the corners and around the windows of the house. We have covered the wood with metal lathe (mesh) for the stucco to adhere to. We did not know we needed to cover the build-outs with Typar (special paper) to create a water barrier. If we don't make a water barrier, the wood will draw the water out of the stucco, when applied, and will cause it to crack and eventually the wood will rot. To remove all the mesh wire would be a HUGE job. We thought we would brush the build-outs with a water sealer similar to what treated lumber is applied with. We would then brush the build-outs down with a TSP (trisodium phosphate ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] ) solution to remove any residue from the wood sealer that may have been left on the mesh. Has anyone tried this before? What other suggestions might someone have other than removing the mesh and starting over.
