Solutions to Problems relacquering an alto sax

I'm trying to re-lacquer an alto sax, Bundy and I polished it and so far tried to use 2 different spray lacquer paints and none of them seems to work on the sax. At first it seems very shiny and like brand new but then when it dries it turns a dull color. Had to remove twice already the sprayed lacquer and before going to my third try I would like to have an advice from the experts in the field. Can you please help me?, and tell me what I'm doing wrong in the process? It's always on the paint process that I failed. Should I use something prior to use the spray lacquer?
