Cleaning service needs help removing fingerprints from mirror finished plastic reflectors

July 27, 2008

I need help finding a product and/or method for cleaning off fingerprints & smudges from the highly reflective mirror like finish of plastic fluorescent lighting reflectors.
They are attatched to 48" fluorescent fixtures and amplify & direct the light downward. Glass cleaning products, nor multipurpose cleansers leave a residue with little result. Stainless steel cleaner removes the major portion of the print but leaves residue as well. My feeling is that solvents such as lacquer thinner on eBay or Amazon [affil link] Flammable! would be risky because of the plastic. Perhaps isopropyl alcohol on eBay or Amazon [affil link] of the type used to clean lenses. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and interest. RCM

isopropyl alcohol on eBay or Amazon [affil link] is probably your best shot. Get a good clean chamois ⇦[this on eBay or Amazon affil links] and wipe it down when it's cool.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
