Alternate to electroless nickel plating on aluminum sheet?

July 15, 2008

I am a buyer for an electronics manufacturing company in the Portland Oregon area.
I am buying a custom made aluminum enclosure that is currently being electroless nickel plated. I seek an alternate plating that will be more cost effective, but still be electrically conductive and also provide some corrosion protection. The finished product is used in a manufacturing environment, in a clean room, so a bright shiny cosmetic finish is not a requirement. There is no technical problem with the current plating; my goal is to reduce cost if possible with another finish.
If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate hearing them.
Thank you for your attention.

Some alternatives would include electrolytic nickel plating. However, there may be other reasons why electroless is used i.e. coverage in a recess, etc.

Why don't you talk to your plater?
