Refinishing an enamel bowl with food-safe coating

My mom was trying to clean an enamel bowl with vinegar ⇦ in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil link] and it eroded the finishing on the bowl. Is there a food safe finish that will stick to enamel?

That entirely depends on the composition of the bowl. If the bowl is made from normal porcelain you should be just fine leaving it as is.

If the bowl is made of ceramic and willing to roll the dice, find out if your local college has a pottery course. Ask them if they would mind firing a clear coat of glaze on it.
Provided they have a light hand with the temperature you should be able to have it re-glazed.
As a reminder be sure to inquire weather their glazes contain lead. Not many potters do any more, but it's better to ask.

We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
