Disposal of Waste Liquids from Pickling and Coppering Line

June 27, 2008

Dear experts

We produce coppered wire for mig welding. We bought an used line but the company who sold the equipment broke and we have no feedback.

We clean and coat the surface of wire as follows

1.The wire enters a batch containing sulfuric acid 10-12% in water
2.The wire enters a batch containing water for rinsing
3.The wire enters a batch containing copper sulphate on eBay or Amazon [affil link] 7% and sulfuric acid 7%, the remaining is water
4.The wire enters a batch containing water for rinsing
5.The wire enters a batch containing lubricant for skin pass and a final die for sizing

My question is:

What installation do you recommend to manage the waste liquids for each batch?

Thanks,

A consultant in your country that is very knowledgeable of your country's environmental rules as well as the equipment that is available.
The exact equipment will depend on your water flow. It may be a simple neutralization with settling to a formal waste treatment system with a filter press.
Your needs are relatively simple because you only have acids and copper ions to contend with.

Adjust the pH to 9.0 - 9.3 with sodium hydroxide. A small dosage of calcium hydroxide slurry will not hurt.

Then, add floc to drop solids.
