Galvanized steel staircase in a condo is dirty and rusty

I am secretary on a condo board and our galvanized steel steps are rusty and dirty. What product should we use to clean these steps. Thanks.

Hi, Jean. Galvanizing makes an exceptionally durable finish, but most people do not consider it a decorative finish. A slight 'rusty' color is due to an expected intermediate alloy, and is not rust. Although you can clean it with regular detergent cleaners, you can't remove the 'rusty' color, and I think you won't get it really shiny. Have you considered having it painted?
