How to emboss polycarbonate sheet with microprisms
June 24, 2008
Dear Sir,
I would like to know the manufacturing process where micrprism can be embossed on a 2 mm polycarbonate sheet which can then be cut to size for use as lens of a road stud/ raised pavement marker. I have come to know that its a heat emboss method but still don't know how microprism can be embossed on the polycarbonate sheet.Currently I am already using the injection molded prismatic lens for my product.
Awaiting your response or suggestions on above.
Thanks and regards

Hi, Rajnish. My understanding is that CDs and DVDs are polycarbonate. Therefore, the same molding techniques should be applicable. I know little about plastics, but polycarbonate is a thermoplastic so I would think that heat embossing could be an applicable technology, and that a roller could be prepared with the embossing pattern.
