Electro plating on exposed steel

June 18, 2008

Hi,
I have an steel bracket for which an electro plating has been done as coating. I would like to know, for an exposed steel , how much is the min thickness of electro plating is required. Currently, an 20-25 micron thickness of electro plating has been done. can anybody advise me on this.
regards,

Hi, Sri. Sorry, I don't understand. What metal is the steel plated with and why? This is a very substantial thickness if it's zinc plated but a minimal thickness for nickel plating. Are you sure it's electroplated rather than hot dip galvanized? If you are speaking of structural use outside, such as a bridge component, this thickness doesn't sound like much.
