My wonderful zamak shiva statue is corroding; what can I do?

A few months ago I bought from someone a marvelous state, probably from India. I think 60 years old. It is a dancing Shiva, very elegant and spiritual. I think it is made of zamak.
It has tiny holes in it and here and there it is showing white powder in these holes. It is delicately silver plated. I do not want anything to affect the surface. Would waxing be a solution?
