Hard chromed calender rolls scratched in 30 minutes!

adv.
u.s chrome

We have two new high impact polystyrene sheet extrusion lines. In both lines, after only 30 minutes the calender rolls (hard chromed surface) show many scratches, in every direction (circumferencial and inclined). We are using only virgin resin in a clean ambient. Does somebody have an idea of the cause ?

Are you sure that these "marks" are scratches? Is it possible that you have cracks in your layer?

There might be other causes but the most obvious are a chrome layer too thin and/or a substrate too soft to support the chrome. Other possibilities include contamination of hard particles, improper handling, incorrect operation.
