Iridium coating my helmet face shield
May 11, 2008
Where can I get this done?
I have a clear plastic shield and I want it to be coated to look like gold metallic finish, like astronauts have on their face shields.
Any ideas where I get this done?

Hi, Budd. Some manufacturing processes like this are impractical for onesy-twosy applications because of the large cost of the deposition equipment and the need for custom fixturing for each different part. I think you'd find it far more practical to locate a face shield that fits and already comes with the coating for $40-$60, or to get a new helmet with it if necessary. Good luck.

Funny thing is: the helmet IS BRAND NEW to the market. It has a shield unlike any other out there. It retracts into the helmet and is not the same shape of any other shield I have seen. The company makes
5 types of the shield but none of them are reflective metal types. It's a Scorpion exo-100 half helmet. I have contacted OPTIC coating companies but have not gotten replies yet. So I was wondering if someone else has been successful doing this.
